For me the past year has been a wonderful year. It has brought both challenging and interesting work at the same time and given me the opportunity to get to work with some of you in greater detail.  I have worked on various international assignments covering such projects as shifting clients and their wealth around the world, setting up tax efficient structures encompassing active businesses or passive investments to Australasia, USA and Europe.

Countries that we have been involved with during the past year, just to name the few, are USA, Argentina, Australia, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Spain, Germany, Malta, Cyprus, Liechtenstein, Switzerland and UK.  We are currently in the process of finalising our membership with an international professional association IAPA that will further enhance our ability to provide greater service including referrals of professionals in respective jurisdictions.

I was also fortunate enough to write an article, posted on our website, with the catchy little title “NZ A Tax Haven for Foreign Trusts”.  Whether fortunately or not, 60 Minutes got a hold of this little gem, which formed one of the corner stones for their program on Foreign Trusts.  Covisory got quite a bit of free advertising out of this on a national television, while the Minister of Finance was grilled over this. You may have seen various articles in the Herald published by professionals as well as a media statement issued by the office of the Minister of Finance dealing with this topic.

So all in all it was a great year and I look forward to 2013 and the wonderful challenges it will bring.
