We were interested to read the latest Knight Frank’s luxury Investment Index (KFLII) Q2 2013 which tracks the performance of a theoretical basket of selected collectable asset classes – such as art, classic cars and wine – using existing third-party indices.

It is worth taking a look and seeing how this market has grown and changed over the past 10 years. For 2013’s second quarter classic cars topped the Index. This passion investment has seen values increase a staggering 430% over the past 10 years, compared to gold, which increased 273% over the same period, and the FTSE 100 index, which saw a 55% increase.

In July 2013 a Mercedes-Benz W196 sold at London-based auction house Bonhams for a record £19.6m.
